IT Field Technician II

Columbia, MD
SCD Information Technology is currently seeking a full time IT Field Support Technician.
Hours: M-F 8:30-5

The IT Field Technician 2 will use his/her vehicle to provide on-site IT consulting and support services at multiple locations for our client. Client locations range from Southern PA, MD, DC, and Northern VA.
Mileage will be reimbursed at the current IRS rate.

Day to Day Responsibilities:
The Technician will:
  • Provide on-site desktop support services for preventative, predictive, and remedial hardware/software maintenance on technology assets following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
  • Perform hands-on fixes at several levels, including installing and upgrading hardware & software, implementing file backups, and configuring systems and applications.
  • Ensure proper computer operations so that end users can accomplish organizational tasks.
  • Provide hands-on help at the appropriate level to customers.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with the use of diagnostics.
  • Assist senior technicians with network equipment installations and site transitions.   
  • Have a current or attain CompTIA Network+ Certification within 6 months.
  • Will have a current CompTIA Network + Certification, if not will be required to obtain a CompTIA Network + within 6 months of hire.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must have:
  • Minimum of 1-year related IT experience with 6 months field experience.
  • Reliable Transportation.
  • Willing and able to travel to sites in MD, DC, northern VA, and southern PA.
  • Current CompTIA A+ Certification.
  • Experience with desktop operating systems including Windows 10 and Mac OS X
  • The more experienced with Microsoft Office the better
  • Hands-on experience with analyzing network data to determine network usage, disk space availability, or server function, or connectivity issues.
  • Experience identifying the causes of networking, software, and hardware problems, using diagnostic testing software and equipment.
  • Experience installing computers, printers, scanners, and desktop phones.

It would be great if candidate also had:
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure cabling (Copper wire and RJ45 predominant) with ability to tone, test, and trace cable.
  • Basic understanding of computer networking and devices including but not limited to routers, switches, firewalls, AP/WAP.
